This year the Festival has been expanded, and extended to a period of nine days between March 11–19, 2020, and is held in the “Tahrir Cultural Centre” in the American University in Cairo Downtown Campus. This Centre is among the largest and oldest historical cultural compounds in the city of Cairo and includes the Ewart Memorial Hall, the Oriental Hall, as well as the Legacy, Future, and the Margo Veillon Galleries.

Over 120 short films, including feature, documentary, first work, and animation films (chosen from over 230 submitted this year) are participating in the Festival this year. Also, and for the first time since its creation three years ago, the festival features filmmaking workshops, discussion panels, an exhibition, and various other events celebrating Egyptian film culture. This year, the Festival is proud of its new partnership with the Egyptian Animation Society and the Jesuite Animation School, with whom we have organized important events in support of animated Egyptian cinema.

A special tribute this year is dedicated to former leading Egyptian film critic and filmmaker Sami Al-Salamoni. Three of Al-Salamoni films will be screened in the opening of the Festival. In his honor, the Festival is also holding an Exhibition featuring pictures of his work, and examples of his critical notes on a variety of key Egyptian films. In addition, “Visions” is organizing a special panel of expertise will discuss the work of this distinguished and leading Egyptian film critic.

“Visions” is the largest annual film festival and celebration which exclusively focuses on films made by Egyptian filmmakers from all around country who work within the short film format.
